The Girl participated in a "food bank foods" cooking contest. We'll know more about it in a few weeks.

The big news is that we were able to travel to Minnesota for my good father in law's funeral. It was a time to be with family and friends. You can see the funeral (including The Girl playing and the boys singing) at YouTube, Lowell Austinson.

July 10

Chub shot a squirrel. Pretty gruesome, but these little things critters are becoming destructive. Plus, they're edible, too. Fried squirrel, anyone?

 This rogue sweet potato sure has become a pretty plant. It won't last much longer, but it's amazing how an old sweet potato can produce such beautiful leaves.

 Pop's roosters are becoming more intricate. He has added beads to his latest collection.

Trying a New Angle

I'm using my Ipad to upload to my computer to upload to this blog. Haven't been here for quite a while, but I've had many requests to return, so we're giving this a try. This summer has been busy, with yummy food, lots of good friends, and great times.

This is an experiment post. Please let me know if it worked for you. If not, we'll stick with Facebook and Instagram.

Finer Things

Branch, Josiah, and Anders participated in the school's end-of-the-year performance. Anders and another student emcee'd the event and did a fabulous, entertaining job.

 

Branch played in the Advanced Strings group (back row, right hand side).

Josiah and Anders sang the song that won them First Place at state for Men's Quartet.

 

 

Josiah also played bass (center stage, in front of the screen) while Branch played violin (right side, back row) and Anders sang (left side, in tuxedo).

There was a very large crowd that filled the whole auditorium, which is partially pictured below.

 

 

Serious Happenings

Josiah and Stennes were honored with an invitation to Georgia's Commissioner of Agriculture Gary Black's (in the center below) private barn in north Georgia for a cook-out / press conference. They were two of ten 4-H students chosen from the whole state, and they were the only two invited from the same county! What an honor! They had a great time rubbing elbows with agriculture "big wigs"!

Anders has been helping Pop finish up some oxen yokes and other "shop" jobs.

Pop and ChubChub have been working on pens such as these in the photo below. Aren't they beautiful?

Finishing Our Week

ChubChub turned his first pen on the lathe while Pop watched and instructed. He's pretty proud of himself!

 

Spring Break Week

We had a gentle Spring Break with lots of visitors and hard work at the U-Pick. Stennes is now 18, so we've turned another corner in our family.

 Branch and his friend Seth decided to test out the 4-wheelers and the mud. This is pretty much what most of our Spring Break looked like...

 

This Past Week

Anders was able to bring home two more large turkeys for the freezer, making a total of three this season. Our neighbor smoked them, and they are now de-boned and waiting for just the right recipe. He's a good hunter.

The Girl and ChubChub had their first soccer game of the season. They won 1-0!! It's a good beginning, anyway...

Wednesday

The Girl made a few trays of chocolate chip cookies because we...well, just because we wanted some!

ChubChub is doing well in his Spanish reading.

And he FINALLY learned how to read in English!!

The Girl is very diligent in her schoolwork.

Busy days teaching; Josiah won a tennis match yesterday, and he's running in a track meet today; Anders comes and goes in his hunting; Branch is re-working the chicken pens with Pop; Stennes is always busy at work; and so life goes on...

Soccer Again

The Girl and ChubChub are on the same team this year with one of our favorite coaches. Looking forward to another season of busy nights and fun times!

The Girl won First Place at Saturday's Cloverleaf Project Achievement. She discussed the different types of flour and how we "...can't dough without it...". She truly enjoys baking.

Short and Sweet

Anders and his friend went hunting Saturday evening and brought home this fine tom. A few hours of smoking the meat and.....yummy!
